In checking the comments on Oprah's FaceBook page, lots of folks think this was the proper day to remember the victims and to honor the survivors. But a good number would still like to learn more about the killers. I hope they'll air it at a later date so they'll have a chance to understand how and why it all happened..

Just heard Dave on Talk of the Nation and he did a super job balancing the story of the killers with the legacy of the victims and survivors. Thank you, Dave, for your excellent work on this important story.

Exactly.  There's room for all points of view and all sides of the story.

This morning as I arrived at the office I heard the "Morning Edition" feature on the anniversary and the book on NPR. It made me want to go right inside and order it, which I did. I learned things in that story I had not previously known, like the killers kept journals. I also got the impression that one of them, was it Dylan, who drew big hearts on his and wanted to take his life. It sounds like so many other stories of gay youth. Made me wonder. I can remember that age and how desperate I was to connect with anyone. Never got into trouble but could relate to that vulnerability

Dave, at the dinner table this evening I asked my husband if he'd read any of the articles about "that book about Columbine." (We live in France, btw). Sure, plus he'd read several of the author's articles on Salon and elsewhere. (My teenage daughter said she'd also heard about it.) He starts telling me something about you and your work so I interrupt. "Well *ahem*, you know that Brokeback forum you're always teasing me about? He started it. It's on his site." Really?!  "Yes, and we've been hearing about that book for over three years. We're all real proud of him." Oh, wow. The family was really impressed that I "knew" you.  Grin

Oprah was just on here and it was on child porn!   Cry   That was something I would rather not have seen.  I think they should have went with what was planned.

And I can't wait to get the book, I didn't make it to the mall today, but I will be getting a copy for sure.   I read where David is being compared to Truman Capote!  Smiley

There's an article on Dave, his book and the 10th anniversary on CNN.com, here:

I just saw Dave on the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC.  She asked him to speak to how various "myths" arose regarding what occurred at Columbine.  She also asked him to comment about Oprah's decision to cancel the airing of her program with him.  He had just come from the memorial event at Columbine, and he was, not surprisingly, very complimentary towards Oprah and her staff and said he understood her decision not to air the program.

Rachel may not have Oprah's viewership but I dare say that the demographics of her audience make her program an excellent venue for discussion of a serious book like Dave's.

I hope he makes an appearance on one of C-SPAN's book review programs.  I know that he will be at the L.A. Book Festival, which will be covered by C-SPAN - but I also think a one-on-one would make a really good program.

Oh, heck, I didn't know he would be on Rachel Maddow.  I sometimes watch that show, but didn't have it on tonight.

Sounds like it was a good show, and I agree, a serious format is best for a discussion like this.

I just saw him on Rachel Maddow.  He looked tired there, too -- I imagine he really is, because he was at the memorial today, and mentioned what an emotional day it had been.  Nevertheless, he gave a good interview, and I'm glad he got that national coverage.
