The Washington Post "Express"  has an article about Dave's book in today's edition.  They also report that there's a book signing at Politics and Prose in DC this evening.  I guess the Post didn't do their homework.  I hope there aren't a lot of disappointed people showing up for the cancelled signing tonight.

hi - it is karin dicker one of the kinda original bloggers here.  i haven't been here since after Heath's death.  I was staying up late as usual and I was checking to see what was on HBO.  BBM happened to be on right then.  I saw the movie over 100 times (long story) - but I haven't been able to watch it in years.  I watched it from the kiss after 4years and Alma sees it (that is where I caught it starting) and watched it until the last second.  Then I came over to the blog just to see what is happening and WHOA DAVE your book is out. Timing is everything!  I will try to get to one of your book signings and UCLA.  I am so happy it is going gang busters.  This is so cool.  Hello to everyone else from Los Angeles.  xxoo karin

Dave was on our local NPR interview program, Radio Times, this morning, and will be on Face The Nation, which is live at 2pm EDT on Monday. It's a call-in show. So have a question ready. Smiley

Hello Dave
- this is fantastic, make the most of it!
I saw you might be over in the UK, if I had some advance notice, I would try to coordinate a group of forum members to come along together to one of your gigs.
If you are offered the chance to speak in Oxford, please accept!!!! - or London is do-able for some of us.
Cheers, Chris

Thanks. We're shooting for early May.

I think I have a book excerpt in The Guardian today, too.

It's on sale over there as a trade paperback. Is it very visible in the stores?

The Times of London also asked me to write an op-ed. I said yes, but now I have to do it! When will I have time for that? It's crazy.

Today's 'People' mag gave 'Columbine' 4 stars!  Here is an excerpt from the review: Like Capote's 'In Cold Blood,' this tour de force gets below the who and what of a horrifyiing incident to lay bare the devastating why.

Kudos to Dave.

I LOVE that one--though honestly, I have not had time to read the whole thing. I have also heard that the one in the NY Observer is the smartest/best one on me, but I've only seen a few lines. That's the measure of how buy I am. I don't have time to even read compliments.

(And/or analysis. What I loved about some of the early reviews was that they were written by such smart people, and I was actually learning from them. Now, I hope to go back learn later, for my next book, but no time for class now.)

Oh, I'm glad you heard that? How was I?

I was SO tired yesterday. I got only four hours sleep--on the heals of endless short nights--and had to wake at 7 for an ABC radio satellite tour. I was barely conscious when Radio Times started, which is sad, because that's a great show, and I wanted to do well. Hopefully I was still OK, though not my best work. Sorry.

I need a rest. I get much of the weekend off, sort of. I have to write that piece for Times of London.

YAY Dave. I am getting off early on Monday to watch Oprah! Luckily it is on at 4 pm here on the west coast.

Finished your book and all the accolades are spot on!! Well deserved. And Like Oprah, I could only read it in the light of day.

Also makes me count my lucky stars that my two boys made it through the high school years mostly unscathed.
Thanks so much for this book. ALL parents should read it!! Like one of the reviews said, "Do you know who your children are?"
I am passing it on to my boys who are having their boys.

Congratulations again and get some rest! You're gonna need it!!!

Yeah, this is exciting!

I'm kinda like -- who said they could only read it in the daytime?  ETA:  Linda and Oprah!

I don't have mine yet, but it kind of scares me too, because I was nearly as traumatized by Columbine as I was by 911.

And Virginia Tech.

Conserve your strength, Dave!

Check out TDS!!!  Dave's on Oprah monday

I am SO excited about this. I have been about to bust for about three weeks, as we prepped for a possible show, and could not tell. We taped on Wednesday.

I'm very sorry about missing the DC reading. That's the reason we had to cancel. It was an afternoon taping, so I could not make it from Chicago to DC in time. (And we told the bookstore why, but could not tell others.)

Unfortunately, they're not planning to send me back to the east coast. (Book tours are money losers these days, and publishers have to watch every dime. Even the big authors do only eight cities of fewer, so it's unlikely they will expand the tour. But it's possible that they will book events in other cities if I have to go out that way for another reason.)

P&P is going to ship a carton of books for me to sign and ship back, so that they'll have autographed copies. If you contact them now, I imagine they'll put one on hold for you.

---

Doing Oprah was amazing.

(We got the go ahead to publicize it yesterday, but wanted to wait here to give TDS the chance to break the news.)

Nearly all my family came, plus Lydia/Kittyhawk who has tirelessly helped me research/proof/promote the book. I can never thank her enough.

How great to have them there.

I had only 40 minutes after the taping to meet them before the car took us to O'Hare for a flight to Miami, but it was great to see them. I had just done a toast to my family, and gotten unexpectedly choked up doing it, when my publicist rushed in with the news. (At least I think it happened in that order. Did it, Lydia? My memories are kind of a jumble.)

It airs Monday. I'm on for the full hour, with Agent Fuselier and Lead Investigator Battan. Principal DeAngelis also skypes in at one point.
