Sydney Star Observer reports
Prop 8 play coming to Australia

The new play by Academy Award-winning gay screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk and J. Edgar) is to be staged in Australia featuring an all-star local cast.

“We felt compelled to bring 8 to the Australian stage after experiencing the L.A reading,” producer Kate Whitbread said.
“It is remarkable how universal the issue is and how we all need to stand together for what is right.

The one-night-only special events in Melbourne and Sydney will coincide with the handing down of the Senate’s findings from the current inquiry on same-sex marriage in Australia.
All profits from the staged reading will support Australian Marriage Equality (AME) and their fight to end marriage discrimination in Australia.
“We only have a few months to change the minds of about 30 undecided MPs,” AME’s Alex Greenwich said.
“The awareness and funds raised by this event will be vital to achieving marriage equality.”
INFO: 8 will be staged in Melbourne on June 8 at Her Majesty’s Theatre and Sydney on June 9 at the Sydney Town Hall.

I hope they will have a YouTube available, at least for a while!

I'd love to hear it with Australian actors!

I am not sure if this fits in here or not...  but last weekend my youngest son and his girlfriend went to a wedding.

I heard all about the wedding, the food, the music, the cake, the flowers, everything......they neglected to mention it was two girls who got married.  I guess they didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary.

I had only gotten the one name, the name of the girl who was their friend... when they mentioned the other girls name I said "it was two girls who got married" and they are like........umm  yea...

Progress!

Speed the day that such an attitude becomes common here.

Is Obama about to endorse marriage equality?
5-09-12

The pundits seem to think so, and so do gay rights advocates.  The President sat down for a hastily arranged interview with ABC News at which is expected to be released after filming.  Stay tuned for more updates.

From the Washington Post‘s Greg Sargent:

There’s a ton of speculation out there to the effect that in an interview with ABC News this afternoon, Obama will finally complete his evolution on gay marriage, after days of intense pressure to clarify where he stands, in the wake of Joe Biden’s vague but supportive comments over the weekend.

An ABC News source says the question will be asked in the interview today, and gay rights advocates are fully expecting him to finally state clearly that he supports full equality for gay and lesbian Americans, and perhaps even that it’s time the country accepts the inevitable.

I'm just hoping that a nation-wide law will overrule all those propositions, amendmends and other crap that has been introduced in 33 states so far. I'll celebrate the day when the family research council & co realize that they have invested all those millions they needed for their campaigns, propaganda and such for nothing because their vile laws have been overthrown by nation-wide constitutional laws....

It would have to be ruled unconstitutional at the level of the Supreme Court. While there are already two cases pending in the federal court system, most particularly the one from California, I believe that it has been argued narrowly in terms of the Prop 8 ballot initiative against gay marriage so that Prop 8 was seen as a violation of the California state constitution first, then the 14th Amendment to the Constitution (the equal protection clause) second.

But as they say: your words to God's ears.

I was thinking of the women who gathered in Elmira (or was it Seneca Falls?)
in New York State in the 1840's for the right to vote, among other things...
And it took 80 years from then to be able to do so.
