FYI:

just in case anyone wants to stock up on the original Brokeback DVD

- to donate to libraries or just to get some cheap copies

- and I know the forum does not benefit from this

- but I noticed in their ads that BOTH Circuit City and Best Buy have the DVD on sale for $6.99 this week - as an in-store special - beginning Sunday Aug. 5.

DCLuke, who was so active with the DVD campaign, sent me this email yesterday:

On Friday I received a response to an e-mail that I had sent to a Mississippi library two years ago offering a Brokeback DVD. I was very surprised to receive it! The librarian said that she would be delighted to accept a DVD, so I immediately ordered one on Amazon.  I was especially pleased to send it to a "red state."

I just stopped at Wal-Mart and saw that they had several copies of BBM for $9.00!

Can someone recommend a library?

Does anyone know if Brokeback Mountain will be released on Blu-Ray?  I see it offered on Amazon UK, but I’m not sure if that would work on my DVD player in the U.S.  If the UK format is compatible for the U.S., then could this campaign be extended to now include putting Blu-Ray versions in libraries?

Thanks,
Cam

I couldn't find any information indicating this, and probably Googled the same sources you did. The official website still touts the special two-disc HD DVD. and, indeed, Amazon UK seems to be releasing it on Blu Ray. I do not know if it is compatible on players in the US. Sorry not to be more helpful. It's probably safer to wait until a U.S. release, which I'm sure will be well publiciized.

    Yooooohoooo, anybody here?
I am replacing some of my DVDs for Blu-ray and want to donate them.  I went to the master list of libraries on page one of this thread. I would like to find some with the biggest needs, but it's like a needle in haystack type of situation.
Can somebody give me an idea of which areas might benefit more from this?  I looked at some of them at random, but, how accurate are these librarie's catalogs?

I'll take a look a bit later in the afternoon and get back to you.

Okay, so I've checked around - and since Florida is one of the states most affected by the recession I think your local libraries could use the DVDs.  Here is contact information from the Friends of the South County Regional Library that includes an email address where you can ask:

http://friendsofscrl.org/contact.html

Marion County also appears to be hard hit by the recession - so  you could contact them to ask as well - here is their website with contact information:

http://www.marioncountyfl.org/library/Friends.aspx

Gadsden County Public Library says on their library blogspot that they accept donations of DVDs and Videos.  Here is their website:

http://www.gcpls.org/

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you ask how accurate the library's catalog is - libraries update their catalogs all the time - so anything you see online should be accurate.

Is this enough information, or do you need a more in depth answer?  The way I answered this question was to look online to see what parts of your state were worst hit by the current recession.  Then I looked for libraries in those counties - and contact information on the library websites.  Please let me know if you need further information.

Greetings..  I'm the IT director (heh, entire department) for a few libraries here in Wyoming.  I just came across one of your DVD's, scratched all to h@ll and back again.  "Community sponsored censorship" is what we call that here..  though thankfully they didn't just Steal the disk which is far more normal.  We have a nice little DVD/CD cleaning machine that fixed 'er up good as new.

Just wanted to say thanks for the donation and let you know that we're doing everything in our power to keep it  in good condition and rotation.

Cheers,

Welcome to the forum Brian!

I'm sure we can send a new dvd if you need it. Just tell us where to send it.
