isn't it similar with feminism and the catholic church? you might have to pay close attention...but..... i work for a feminist catholic development aid organisation...can you believe that? we do have our daily little disputes with the bishops, yes. but nevertheless, we are part of that church. we deserve that and we fight for our space. Smiley

yes, it is.  and it is good to fight for your space.  i find i don't have the stomach (or maybe the heart, the patience, the fortitude?) to do so from within the church.

believe me, it IS hard work...just now, i'm sitting in my hotel room after a looong day of meetings and discussions - we're desperately trying to develop a policy paper on women's reproductive health (including abortion, fgm, hiv/aids and sexual violence); all topics that are not too popular within the higher ranks of the catholic church. but it does take guts to get to the point where we can say "WE are allowed to have our own approach, one that might not be in line with the "official" catholic church, but one that WE can live with". but then you figure - heck, what's the worst that can happen? they can't just excommunicate 100.000 women in austria, right? we are many, and if we are united, it makes us powerful.  Smiley

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on Tuesday voted to allow the ordination of openly gay and lesbian ministers.

Well,

As addictive as facebook is, I think I'm in need of a little more depth, or at least virtual depth.

Thought I'd come by again.  I'm (hopefully) not as combative as I used to be.  I apologize for sometimes being a holy terror in the past. :-)

My life right now is alright.  I'm recovering from substance dependency, thank God, and my broken heart is mending.
I'm still a Christian, or in the process of being Christian--- though I'm more ecumenical now (I think).  It feels sometimes like I am starting over.

How is everyone?  Anyone know how Rance's partner, Marty, is doing?

your Brian

Good to hear from you brian. The thread has been a bit sleepy lately. I have not heard from Marty in a while, but some other regulars may have. Buhler? Buhler?

I wonder if he still has the same phone number.  Maybe I should give him a call some time.
I still can't completely believe Rance is not physically present with us.

Take care, Sandy

I know. Rance was a very vital part of this thread. I sometimes think I can still hear his voice.
