Catching up on my reading:

-Interesting.

Apparently, in 2008, some of the 1.3 Billion people in China actually gave a shit about the Oscars.

Glad I followed the link in the quote; it was an interesting conversation, especially this part:

Quote
Lola And one day it may be Annie or Michelle or Jake up there again (or Ang) and we will be routing for them, I know I will.

divina  But never Heath...because they were too cowardly when they had the chance.

Had forgotten about the plans to turn Trash into a TV series; didn't hear whether it ever aired.

I don't "obsess" over an awards show 7 years ago but lost the last shred of respect I'd had for the Oscars at that  point. My only good memories of that event are (1) our Variety ad,  (2)  the DVDs to Libraries campaign and  (3)  butting heads with Roger Ebert via email.

What was the gist of the convo with Ebert?

I read a couple of his articles about Oscar/Brokeback/Crash, where he simply declared that "Brokeback was well done but Crash was simply a better movie"... I'm not sure exactly what that means..(?)

I seem to remember that was one of the things I asked about -- what exactly made Trash (I did use the more polite name) a better movie?  Didn't ever get a straight answer.  I'll dig through my email 'archives' and see what else I've saved; it's been a long time.

Well, ebert  Angry (never a 'critic' I respected) did a very blatant flip-flop.  He praised BBM for some time.
Later on - out of the blue and due to Haggis' evident race card being played - went way way over to TRASH.  He had a personal reason 'cos his wife is black.  Oh, I'm sure he was prompted too.

Noone in their right mind who could even dare to say TRASH is a better movie (!) must have been prodded and urged to do so.  I've never liked him  and since this I can't stand the thought of this know-nothing so-called 'critic'.   What a phony.

Ebert reviewed BB in December 2005 and gave it four stars!

Ebert reviewed Crash back in May of 2005 and gave it four stars!

He clearly liked both films, he is entitled to like one better.  I am not sure it had anything to do with his wife.. Roll Eyes

That's what I am saying he never flip flopped, he liked them both  - but from the beginning predicted Crash to win!

Oh, sure, that's ebert's 'answer' - in a column written after the awards were given.

He says, oh so stupidly, that TRASH is the better film than BBM.  Give me a break!  He's making out and out excuses for the blatant flip-flop he famously made, and in that lousy 'column' goes on and on about the academy, liberals, blah, blah, blah, and other ridiculous statements.

The fact of the matter is that ebert is and always has been a pompous, arrogant jerk who fell for the race card as much (or more) as haggis et al did.  He knows right well about the insider campaign that went on starting about 3 weeks before the Oscars against BBM by the "academy" and its partners in crime - inside and outside.  And he certainly knows that ampas' homophobia played such a huge part in those stupid members denying BBM Best Picture.  AL won the Best Director Award.  Heath and Jake deserved them too.

It's almost unbelievable that he would even dare to drag up some excuses for the flip-flop behavior he is so guilty of.  You messed up, ebert. Angry  You messed up real bad.  Just admit it, huh?

"For the past seven years, Ang Lee has been holding a valuable Oscar I.O.U.
Academy members have owed him a Best Picture prize ever since they snubbed his "Brokeback Mountain" and now Oscarwatchers wonder: Is "Life of Pi" good enough to redeem the debt?"

The above article is wonderful.  It says it all and it is so very truthful.

Oh, how Ang has an overdue IOU!

I guess you could say he had an Unskewed Opinion.  That's why he picked the more memorable movie.    Evil

From last night's episode of THE NEW NORMAL:

The producer and the kid were walking to school and he was quizzing her on her spelling
and math, etc. He said there was no explaining some things like the movie that won
Best Picture in 2005 and she said "Yeah, Crash" and made a face.
