That was an interesting find, although I'm not sure of the context in which they were
being interviewed or whatever...

It's not an interview.

It was an actual conversation Diana and Larry had on Sunday evening.

This is Larry and Diana's blog at the NY Review of Books website. They were invited to write for the site last June. This is their second shared blog post. Larry has written a couple on his own.

The first shared post was a conversation about 'True Grit' last month.

article from Tufts U. student newspaper

The best man doesn’t always win... The Daily investigates the biases inherent in the Academy Awards

One of the most glaring examples of LGBT-centered films being brushed off by the Academy is when "Brokeback Mountain" lost the Best Picture award to "Crash" in 2005. The decision was made despite "Brokeback" winning the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award (England's equivalent to the Oscars), the Director's Guild Award, the Writer's Guild Award, the Golden Globe Award, the Producer's Guild Award and an unprecedented number of critics' awards. Even with its huge box office take (grossing over $170 million worldwide) and its critical lauding, many believe that "Brokeback" simply lost because many of the older Academy members may have felt uncomfortable voting for or even watching a film about a gay romance, even though many agree it is one of the most effective and best romance films ever produced.

Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry
NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

CRASH WILL BE FORGOTTEN WITHIN 6 MONTHS!!!

Well, I am depressed. But there is one thing I know: Brokeback Mountain will be changing hearts and minds long, long after Crash is forgotten.

But now we know, once again we are reminded what we are up against. Brokeback lost to the tire iron.

I remember that night, I was with some Brokies in the Village at "Splash" watching the Oscars.  A few guys came dressed as cowboys.

The booooos in that club that night were so loud!

I couldn't think of anything to say to describe that feeling and that
moment, so I left it blank...even 5 years hence...

Perhaps I'm behind the times, but on page 56 of this forum there were some unpleasant things said about me and my post regarding Crash vs. Brokeback Mountain. I wanted to make it clear that I did read them and add my side:

Plus the original article that started it:

well, for what it's worth. I thought your article was well written, and  I've never said Crash was unworthy of existing. I've always thought it would be an o.k. made for tv movie.

The forum is not 56 pages long. There are over 2,000,000 posts here. This is just one small topic that isn't even one of the most active.

John, didn't you post a reply to this article?  I thought sure I saw one,
but a few minutes later--not there???

To Mat:  SInce you included those links to your articles here I read the first one again
and then your new one.  I usually don't say anything about the worth of crash as a movie
or not, my focus is on the reasons Brokeback Mountain did not win as was expected to.
And, as I've written many times, there is ample evidence both actual and circumstantial
that homophobia was a major factor.

Tonight I noticed that about Brokeback Mountain you wrote in your original piece:
The story of the two ranch hands who find unexpected love could have been told with
a straight couple.
I have to say you are completely wrong.  Brokeback Mountain is about
gay men who have to live their lives in the closet and what that means to them and the
other people in their lives.  Straight people don't have to do that.

And you don't have to defend crash just because you and Paul Haggis are Canadian, LOL!
And don't get on me, one of my best friends is Canadian.  I jut hate to see people wasting
their time defending a film that no one really talks about any more, except in terms of it
being awarded something it didn't deserve.  I saw the film once, months before Brokeback
Mountain came out.  I thought it was okay.  Nothing more.  Certainly nothing I thought
would win a Best Picture oscar.

Yes I did. Someone must have deleted it. I told the author that I thought it was a well written article and that's why I shared it here.
