I have been pushing for the use of the word "experience", because I feel the movie is an experience
"how about experience the movie with someone YOU love".....

gary
a question to ponder:  do you think asking the clicker to share the experience may be taken wrong by some fence sitters about seeing the movie and therefore scare them away from the movie experience.  it sounds like "share the experience to be gay"  and that is not the message we are trying to send.
i think either see it for yourself   or see it and decide for yourself   are less intimidating to people who are afraid of what this movie does than,  ":share the experience".  that has a bad feel to me and also it can turn a person who is afraid of "the gay experience" way off.  thoughts?  also i agree with lynn, there are lots of us without someone to share this movie with...i have seen it 32 times in a theather and only twice have seen it with other people - both of who were less than impressed with it....one who downright almost hated it (my ex who thankfully i sat seats away from so couldn't notice them staring at their watch over and over until they told me about doing so).  i always see it alone.  prefer it that way.

Well Karin, to be honest, I haven't thought of it in that way and you do make sense......mmmmmm, damn   LOL

and BTW, I am not gay Karin and I still didn't think of the "experience" angle that way

The landing page is the place for the content -- the quotes, the stories, etc. -- that make the viewer want to stay and explore the forum. The ad is what gets them there, all in about 2 seconds of viewing time.

Okay, so we're dealing with two separate things:

(1. The banner ad and     (2. A landing page

It sounds as if the banner ad is going to be pretty straightforward:  A mention of 2005's best picture and an invitation to share the experience, in so many words.  That should be pretty easy.

More effort needs to be directed to the landing page.  I have some questions:  Is this going to be the same page that's been used for the first ad (brokeback.davecullen.com)?  I thought I read some mention of redoing that one, and I don't know if it's to be the new landing page or what.

If there'll be a new page altogether, are we working on that now, or just on the banner ads?  Will it have a new address, and is there a sample to look at yet?  I'm not sure where the process is at this point.

I very much approve of the internet banner approach being discussed.  I also strongly support the suggestions for future projects - the issue of getting rid of social and self-repression of people due to their sexual orientation has become very important to me as a result of BBM and this forum.

I'm pleased the dozy embrace from ad 1 is being used again.  I think the banner design fading out and in to three different messages is brilliant.

Should we just put "Best Picture" or "Best Picture 2005"?  Is the only reason we're putting "Most Honored" because it didn't get the BP oscar?  Most people voted it "Best Picture" and that is a stronger statement - and not a lie.

Idea for direction to this site - "Find Out More" or "Find Out More About Brokeback" or "Find Out More About Brokeback Mountain".  I thought that might be a bit less directional (not like an order) and puts the power to decide with the person viewing the banner in an unchallenging way.

Sorry to barge in here, but...

A few more Extra Copies of Variety...

Okay, I still have 8 more copies of Variety (with the ad) left.  If you've already asked me and I haven't replied yet, please remind me.  If I've alreted you already that I'm sending yours off, no need to re-reply, it's in the envelope already.

Otherwise, if you never got one, please PM me and I'll send them out (for free).  If you helped directly in the ad or in sending out press releases, and haven't told me already, please mention that too.  But this is open to everyone now.  I will PM you to verify.

And PLEASE watch this thread for a message that says I am out, so you don't have to keep PM'ing me!  Thanks.

Also, as I said before:

These are for you to keep, NOT for selling on eBay or wherever.  Please honor and respect my request, I'm donating these solely for people who feel strongly connected to this movie and felt moved by this beautiful ad which was made possible by the efforts of many here.  Thank you very much for understanding.

Okay, so the thank you page that Pete mentioned http://www.brokeback.davecullen.com/ is now going to be the new landing page that lynn mentions.

In that case, it seems the banner ads are close to being worked out and the landing page now needs to be looked at.

Gary, I like it too! Here's a thought... people who would see "share the experience" and think to themselves, "ewww, i don't want a gay experience".... the concern raised by Karin... are NOT are target audience anyway! Effective marketing targets a very specific audience, and I see the one for this ad as those who already saw, or maybe will see/ are curious about/ the movie, but who have not been here to this forum yet.

I love the banner ad and the idea of 3 'flashes.'

I totally DISlike the welcome page as it is now. I'd much prefer something along the clean, uncluttered lines of the Variety ad with links.

thanks Lynn...I feel so strongly that BBM was an experience, visually (a local photographer said every frame is like a photograph), emotionally (my brother is gay, and now I have some idea of what he may have went through),  and in so many other ways that I can't explain.
