Well, my take on this is that if they were just a couple of theives, they would have ended up on page 6 or 16 or wherever. If they were just porn stars, they might have ended up on page 2 or 3. But the sensational triple-whammy of gay, porn, and robbery puts them on the front page.

And whether "we" have abs like that or not, the media, and many in the general population lump us all into one big pile.

Milo

I agree that we all get lumped together.

There is also the fact that they were twins - this has all of the makings of a media freak show.

Off topic - sorry

We are going to do a TDS feature on Coming Out to parents/family/friends.  One of our forum members, a parent, is going to contribute to the article, discussing when her son came out to the family.

If anyone is interested in letting us know what it was like for you to come out to your parents/family, please PM me.  (We have a little interview from Lance Bass, but our hearts are with the stories of forum members).

Thanks,

In the news today 9th April.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu is in San Francisco to receive an award for all he has done to further the cause of the LGBT community around the world. He said in a BBC interview in 2007,that he felt ashamed at times,by how "obsessed" the Anglican church was, regarding homosexuality.

Television company fined for making gays look 'normal'

By Adam Lake • April 24, 2008 - 16:29

Singapore's City State Regulator has fined a television station £5000 for featuring a gay couple in way that makes them look 'normal.'

The Media Development Authority fined MediaCorp TV for featuring the couple with their adoptive son, claiming that it "promoted a gay lifestyle."

Homosexual sex is illegal in Singapore, however, in October 2007, the Singapore government declared that private, consensual, adult homosexual sex would no longer be prosecuted but that its illegality would remain.

The authority said the episode contained scenes of the gay couple with their baby and the presenter's congratulations and acknowledgment of them as a family unit "in a way which normalizes their gay lifestyle and unconventional family setup."

The hit show, Find and Design, helps couples renovate a part of their home. In this particular episode the couple wanted to makeover their child's bedroom.

Earlier in the year a cable television station were fined £3500 for showing a commercial where two women kissed.

Employee Health Benefits = Marriage??

Michigan Supreme Court: No health benefits for gay partners
by David Eggert | The Associated Press
Wednesday May 07, 2008, 12:11 PM

LANSING -- The Michigan Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that a 2004 ban against gay marriage also blocks governments and state universities from offering health insurance to the partners of gay workers.

The 5-2 decision affirms a state Court of Appeals ruling.

Up to 20 public universities, community colleges, school districts and local governments in Michigan have benefits policies covering at least 375 gay couples. Some of the plans began as far back as the early 1990s.

After the appeals court ruled in February 2007, universities and local governments rewrote their policies to try to comply with the gay marriage ban -- so the effect of Wednesday's decision was unclear.

The new policies no longer specifically acknowledge domestic partnerships but make sure "other qualified adults," including gay partners, are eligible for medical and dental care. The adults have to live together for a certain amount of time, be unmarried, share finances and be unrelated.

Penguin tale tops list of `challenged' books
By HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer  Tue May 6, 3:42 PM ET

NEW YORK - A children's story about a family of penguins with two fathers once again tops the list of library books the public objects to the most.

"And Tango Makes Three," released in 2005 and co-written by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell, was the most "challenged" book in public schools and libraries for the second straight year, according to the American Library Association.

"The complaints are that young children will believe that homosexuality is a lifestyle that is acceptable. The people complaining, of course, don't agree with that," Judith Krug, director of the ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom, told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The ALA defines a "challenge" as a "formal, written complaint filed with a library or school requesting that materials be removed because of content or appropriateness."

Big government: OK for gays, not for smoking

by Susan J. Demas | Capitol Chronicles | Analysis
Saturday May 10, 2008, 11:03 PM

Nobody seemed to notice the juxtaposition, but the GOP-dominated Michigan Supreme Court ruled that it was a-OK to deny benefits to gay couples on Wednesday to the cheers of ultraconservative legislators -- and those same pols raised a stink about a smoking ban on Thursday.

In other words, they celebrated government intrusion one day, and railed against it the next.

I find this highly amusing, but then again, hypocrisy usually is.

Here's the background. In 2004, voters approved Proposal 2 to ban gay marriage, with proponents like Sen. Alan Cropsey, R-DeWitt, swearing that this wouldn't change benefits for same-sex couples. Of course, Attorney General Mike Cox decided the constitutional amendment did exactly that and on Wednesday, the Supreme Court agreed.

In this case, it's fine for the government to tell you what to do with your body. And forget the pesky concept of federalism conservatives are supposed to hold dear. A number of cities like Lansing and school districts like Ann Arbor Public decided for themselves to offer same-sex benefits.

But evidently, Big Government knows better.

California Supreme Court overturns gay marriage ban

The California Supreme Court has overturned a ban on gay marriage, paving the way for California to become the second state where gay and lesbian residents can marry.

The case involved a series of lawsuits seeking to overturn a voter-approved law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

With the ruling, California could become the second state after Massachusetts where gay and lesbian residents can marry.
