Fritz:

Love your turtles, perfect spot to display them, huh?

I very much like the "box" of baby "box turtles".   Cheesy

OK, I guess this would qualify as a new collection by default.  We've known about fossil wood (petrified, fossilized -- I need to read up on this) in the area where our cabin is located.  We have found small to medium size piezes, but the pictures below is one that was found this week during some clearing that was being done.

Just pulled out.

The front.

This is the other side, what we call the back.  Seems like this piece is just one half of the trunk of a tree.

Wow, Gerry, fantastic piece of wood/rock! How much does it weigh, got a rough estimate? Might you keep it someplace near the exterior of the cabin?

cabin, that really IS a stellar chunk of petrified wood... wow. i love the mossy stuff growing on the top of it. okay, so that's way too big to stick in a fishtank, lol.

rei-g   --   your owls are adorable, and they do look like the star wars robots, esp the coloring.  my friend here in los angeles is a teacher, and she collects small owl figurines. traditionally, owls represent wisdom, so it's quite fitting for a teacher!

hmm, i have a small collection of japanese robots. i will try to find pics of those... Smiley

okay, here they are, or some of them at least, along with my hamsters photon and moko. Cheesy

we now have about 20 toy robots. most are miniature, about 2" to 8" tall, but a couple are larger.. i love them as they disassemble, and half the fun is putting them back together again. most are from the late 60's to early 80's. all from japan.

Glenn, Rei-g, and Jimmy:

This would make a fine collection on its own....  Cheesy
Thanks guys, you never know what's gonna be shown in here.  Jimmy's right about the owls resembling SWars Robots...
. . . Jimmy, has any of your hammies shown any affection towards one of your robots?   Grin

All this robot talk reminded me of a very popular carwash back in the late 60's early 70's call RoboWash
and look what I found.

gnash (you're Jimmy?) the poet,

Animation figure collectors will probably go bizarre with your robots.
Cute hamsters!   Kiss Kiss

I will make sure my feathers will not take interest in your furs Grin

o-hayo, rei-g!

yes, i'm jimmy (gnash)...  btw, my mom's name is oki setsuko (from fukuoka);  it's so nice to see a japanese name on the threads!

the robots are indeed popular, but they are increasingly difficult to find at the toy shows. Sad

okay, and my hamsters will not nibble on your owl's wings  Wink

re: collectibles -- i also have a small, evergrowing collection of children's ceramics -- that is, pottery made by kids of all ages. we find them in thrift stores where they are cast off, i guess, when the children grow up. i find them to be most charming. most are bowls and cups, but others are lidded boxes, vases with odd faces (a gorilla barbie, lol) and the ever popular pencil holders. they seem to have a certain abstract quality to them, like peter voulkos without the high degree of education, hehe. wasn't it picasso that said it was difficult for him to unlearn his craft so he could paint like a child? i think that is what's attractive about a child's artwork -- there is a certain appeal in their brusque handling of the medium.
