John:

Seems right to me also  -- also interesting to see 3 theaters for WSS -- I guess they move around these long running plays.

Chuck:

I took this picture a couple of days ago and having a bit of trouble getting close enough.  I need to retake some of the other ones, so I'll post them later.

These are some of the ones I was talking about.

I used to have hundreds of comic books. It was a big thing when I was growing up in the army, especially when we lived in Germany. We didn't have English TV, everything was dubbed in German, even 'Bonanza'. So we listened to the radio and read a lot of comic books.

I had to leave all of my collection in Germany because the Army had weight limits on what we could ship.

Quote
Chuck, you'll get a kick out of this story,

a friend of ours, while we lived in DC, found one of his tenants at one of his apartments had skipped and not paid his rent.  He had to go in, sort all the stuff out, throw away stuff, and do what ever with the rest.  Well, under the bed, there was 1 long white box full of comics.  No particular subject or anything - include old superman, batman, archies, xmen, fantastic four, the shadow and on and on.

Guess who got them for free.... Grin      As a kid and comics, I was into Casper, Richie Rich and Archie  --  I was a true sissy... Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Thought I'd move this post from the diner over here.

John:  Not sure if you read this story -- it's regarding how I came upon this box of comics.

Such a shame you had to leave your comics behind -- but I understand, they do way a ton.

Ahhh.....Gerry!   the whole Marvel vs. DC thing.

I was mostly a DC comics reader, but I do have a large number of "X-Men" comics.

in the comics fandom, those were the two main companies that competed against each other.

You were either a DC (Superman, Batman, Justice League, Teen Titans) fan or a Marvel (Spiderman, Captian America, Avengers, X-Men) fan.

I recently purchased this program on Ebay. The show is "Texas, Li'l Darlin' ", and the star was Kenny Delmar.

wow that's a trip!!  li'l darlin, texas, and delmar.....   i wonder if annie p saw that show herself and was inspired!?!?

LOL about bette davis not being a singer, hahha...

i've been away for a while but will have to catch up on the thread. i really loved the ceramic shots that were posted earlier, and chuck's animation cels and comics.  also, my BF and i were able to see some of the paperbacks that micheal posted when visiting with him in SF, that was cool...  he should post a pic of his pinecones! Cheesy Wink

Hey all, I'll be posting more things here after I get my system up and running at home.  Who knew moving to high speed would be such a pain.

speaking of pots:

i was at KINOKUNIYA bookstore today and my bf and i looked through some japanese "how-to" magazines featuring ceramics... DROOL. couldn't read a thing but the photos were divine. my dream is to have a workshop and kiln to be able to create such lovely, freeform pieces... i love the lovely glazes, and the beautiful yellow clay they used for some of the pots. my favorite was a strange small square box with a cut rock crystal lid almost as big as the base itself. just so unusual...

they also had examples of contemporary japanese work but it wasn't nearly as intriguing as the "traditional" stuff.. i am a sucker for the rough-hewn aesthetic when it comes to clay works!

Nice to see you back Jimmy.  Hope your mini plants survived your absence.

Last of my Bizen.  I had it put away in the closet had to dig it out.

A large vase, weighs 4lbs.  Mom told me this is by Mitsuru Isezaki whose brother Jun was named Living National Treasure.

hi rei-g,,, oh, yes the little plants survived using the wet rope trick... the ones outdoors were a little thirsty -- we had a heat wave the past week (100 degrees+ !). the orchid in the bathroom,,,, the flowers were wilted, but once we watered it they came back to life. just amazing. Cheesy

wow, the large bizen vase is fantastic,,,, that's the "rough" look that i just adore! i'm so glad you took a pic of the bottom as that's very beautiful too. what's interesting is that it almost looks upside down -- usually the bottom of a vase will have a "foot" but in this case the top has that detail. also, the handles look upside down when compared to greek pottery and other traditional forms.

it's so nice... i hope it stays out of the closet for a while!  Smiley

Figurines, a cat (chopstick rest) and an owl.  The cat is hand made, the
owl is molded I believe.

Personally, I think I prefer japan lacquer ware over Bizen pottery. Tongue
That's another of "too expensive to collect" type of stuff.
