I've seen the Oprah clip with the cast of BBM.  I'm somewhat disappointed in Oprah because she seemed to focus on the discomfort the actors experienced portraying gay men (on par with the rest of the main stream media interviews).  Also, she seemed particularly focused on the "conflicting" part of infidelity.  I was shocked by that.  I had thought about how hurtful any affair would have been to Alma or Lureen, even more so because it was a man but overall, that's not what I walked away from the movie thinking about.  Yet she did as did some other celebs (as indicated by some other posts) and some of the members of the audience.  I expected more from her, I guess, especially given that she promotes herself as someone trying to use her status to enlighten.

Did Oprah miss the point?

I think the Oprah show was a good thing overall.
Yes, she could have maybe mentioned other aspects, but overall it was a 'thumbs up'.

OPRAH's point is infidelity period. She's done any number of shows about it. We all have our little hang-ups which tend to color our worlds.

Oprah's website lists an Oscar preview for Thursday (tomorrow), Mar 2.

It lists several actors and host Jon Stewart, and "Brokeback Mountain stars--Heath and Jake talk about "the kiss."

Presumably it's an excerpt of their previous appearance edited in, but it's still great publicity for us, and another chance for those who missed it.

She also has lots of pix of the boys on the show here:

i am going to cut chapelle a pass for 2 reasons.  first, he is an equal opportunity offender, and his satire is indeed vicious on everyone, and second because i think he appeared to be, throughout the interview, very much still unhinged.  i think we are likely to hear some very unpleasant news regarding him soon.  in plain english, i think he's flipped.

jack

It's funny because he said on The Actor's Studio - and I agree with him - that the worse thing you can call someone is crazy. It's dismissive. "I don't understand you right now so you're crazy." That man isn't crazy and I can see how someone would be a little offended at the BBM dig but it was small and not very funny so I forgive him that.

just to clarify, i was basing nothing an a particular comment, but i have worked for years as a mental health/ substance abuses professional, and have sufficient personal history of my own and within AA to recognize someone with impaired facilities and judgement.  i will certainly stop short of diagnosis, but i thought there was easily recognized aberrant behavior.

I have seen the film for only the second time  Shocked

My good ness what an amazing piece of film making. All the nuances i noticed i'll speak about tomorrow.
but tonight is important for our little darling and i'm not going to take away from that.

To me, this will forever be a life changing experience. I saw it December 9th, the day it opened and March 5th, 3 months later and it brought me to tears worse then before. There is such a peace to this film, that creeps into your soul and nests very comfortably. Even amid all the uncertainty and turmoil, there is the wonderful grace. Every tear i shed was not in vain, but truly beautiful and inexplicable. Their is a magic behind this film, that splits at the seams. I am very pleased with the fact that this film will be the greatest movie going experience i will ever encounter. I'm just thankful i had an opportunity to witness this as it occured. i will herald this film for the rest of my life.

I am thankful to this entire group as a support group, debators, collaborators, and mostly brokeback friends. We are united by something much bigger then all of us. Greater then the director, producers, crew and actors. This film, all it leaves you with , all the emotions it unravels are truly divine. It has done much more then anyone could have possibly imagined and at the same time it deserves so much more.

I am bound to Oscar tonight. Waiting for that last deserved jewel in the cowboy hat this evening,  and since i will really be an emotional wreck i am not going to join the live thread for fear i might break my computer. All of you will be in my thoughts as a bite my nails for the 3 and 1/2 hour show. I will leave you with my simple and brief prayer.

God bless Brokeback Mountain  Smiley

Oops!  I didn't see this thread.  Just posted an Oprah comment over in General Discussion.  Oh well, I won't repeat it here, only to say today was the first time I saw the interview and I really enjoyed seeing the cast all together.

It just made me smile watching Jake and Heath discuss their experience with the film.  It also reminded me of how special this experience has been---from seeing BBM the first time to belonging to this forum for 6 months!  Amazing!

Ran home to my tivo to watch this tonight!!  Thought it was a little fluff but that's Oprah on Hollywood.  Now she needs to do a follow with some of the people this film has had such an impact on!!!  And how it doesn't seem to be slowing down!!  Thirteen takes for the kiss!  Wow!  Not much about the tent scenes, they didn't correct Oprah when she assummed all had been watching the FNIT and SNIT, when we know there were only 3 present.  Not bad overall, and I love watching those boys anytime.  Anne and Michelle were sweet.
