For What It's Worth

In March 2007, the members of [A HREF="http://www.davecullen.com/forum/"]The Ultimate Brokeback Forum [/A] have just released a hardcover/paperbook book titled [A HREF="http://www.davecullen.com/brokeback/book/"]Beyond Brokeback: The Impact of a Film.[/A]

One suggestion. Shouldn't "paperbook book" be paperback book?

Guess I'm still in proofer mode.

Of course it should. Thanks for catching that. Glad you're still in proofreading mode!

Dave, you might want to correct that!

Guys, don't underestimate the "old fashioned way" of just e-mailing your friends, especially for those of us who aren't hyperconnected! I sent the link to the book website to about a dozen friends, and I know that a number of them have pre-ordered the book. The point is, they don't know about it unless we tell them.

I'm really excited that we're having such good sales after all this hard work at producing the book. I had an interview for a new job last Friday, and I was really proud to be able to say that a book for which I'd served as senior editor had gone to print that very week. We should all be proud that this book, which encapsulates our experience as a community, is actually coming out!

There's more, John!

I got a message a little earlier from David Collins, our publisher at WingSpan Press. Here's a direct quote:

"'are we still picking up more orders?' HA!. Tell your crew that we have
never had a new book sell like this... This is the best marketing I've ever seen for a self-published book."

Yeeeehaaawww! Don't you love that?  Grin

Lydia,

I've posted over at the Yahoo Brokeback group and invited them to come on over to check out the thread and provide some input on marketing. We're only about 1200 strong over there, but you never know what might come of it.

I know one moderator has ordered copies for himself, as well as one for his local library. Is there anything in the pipeline to do a similar project like what we did with getting the DVDs into libraries?

And like jlm1, I've pulled up my Outlook Contacts list to do an e-mailing to those whom I think might be interested in the book.

Ok.  I copied everything to  beyondbrokeback.com

It needs some tweaking.

This is exactly the kind of marketing that will make a difference in our sales!

Thanks, goaaboydc.

Ug.  Looks like the relative path links are all broken -- like to the style sheet.

Lydia -- just how many places did we publicize the /brokeback/book url?  We're going to need to keep that url around, I suspect...
