Hi Guys - tried to copy and paste the info. from the first page of this thread on MySpace, but apparently I am a moron.  I can't seem to get the codes to work.  I know nothing at all about HTML or codes or whatever.  Could someone help me so I can post the stuff to MySpace and also to LJ?  Thanks.  ~A

Does this help?

If you want to embed the link so it looks like this:

Beyond Brokeback:  The Impact of a Film[/i]

The html code is as follows:

Ha, it took me forever to figure out how to post code! It turned out we have a little "code" setting! Cool beans.

By all means, get in touch with your contact.  YES, we are working on getting all the marketing suggestions and contacts organized.

Tellyouwhat,

Just wanted to post here so that we have a record and a time stamp to track what's happened.

I sent an e-mail off last night to my contact at GLAAD (Mr. Romine). Thanked him for his assistance last time and his efforts for helping us get the story about the Variety ad in Newsweek. I asked him if he would publicize the fact that the Forum now has a book coming out. I inserted the press release from the book site (with book links) for him to review.

Haven't heard back, but will update you when I hear.

Hello, bbmbliss!

I should get a report on sales late today. You saw the news that you can order now for overseas delivery, didn't you? YAY!  :DI am so happy about that. Hated the policy that previously wouldn't allow shipments to you all.

Goaboydc, another great contact!  Cheesy

Here's another suggestion-custom bookmarks to be issued with each book purchase. Everyone likes getting free stuff.  I did a Google search and clicked on the first link from the results list.

(Text from website)
Bookmarks are a reader's best friend.

Imagine advertising your business or product with beautiful full color printing every time someone picks up their favorite book. Marketing specialists would agree this cost effective product is an excellent way to promote just about anything (emphasis added). Think of each bookmark as a 2" x 7" or 2" x 6" billboard for your business or product, one that your potential customers will be "driving by" very frequently. For such a potentially invaluable advertising tool, it only makes sense to choose a high quality printing company like PrintRunner.com

Our bookmarks are professionally printed with a variety of colorful options. All of our bookmarks are printed on 14 pt. Card stock and are UV coated to further enrich the appearance of colors. UV coating also provides an additional layer of protection against easily damaging your bookmarks.

http://www.printrunner.com/default.aspx?ID=12&s=gaw&kw=%5Bcustom+bookmarks%5D

They have downloadable bookmark templates (I assume for design purposes).

500 run $54.00

Don't know what the budget will allow, but we could shop around for the best price.

Ooooh, we could even have www.davecullen.com/brokeback/book/ printed on them somewhere so we could use tham to hand out to friends who might be interested in buying the book!  Or we might prefer to keep the beautiful art pristine. Either way, a good idea.

Did you all see this in this morning's The Daily Sheet along with some other good comments?

D. Collins at WingSpan:  …the Northern California Film Festival is happening in April. It gets pretty good buzz, and we're selling (through our local chamber of commerce) a really good scriptwriting book we have. We'd like to add BB to the table. I don't promise a lot of sales at the time, but people see these things and go to Amazon later.

How's that for help from our publisher? He had previously told me that they don't ever help with marketing. He's changing quite a few things after seeing our book!   Grin

Lydia, I am so loving all of this from WingSpan.  We certainly ARE a force of nature, so to speak!   Wink

Have we considered sending review copies out? It'll cost some money, but could get us some good publicity, as well as sales. Some good candidates for review copies would be Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, Gay and Lesbian Review Worldwide. I'm sure there are others--those are just off the top of my head.

Lots of librarians make purchasing decisions based on the product reviews they read in Library Journal.

Someone else mentioned Library Journal to me. Do you know what it takes to get in there?
