I found an article that explains quite a bit about amazon sales rankings.

Somehow our book ranking has dropped to #230,745 on Amazon. I'd better do a little more research on how this works.  Sad

Could it be the drop predicted after the initial backorders were filled?

I just read that in the article, although I admit I missed it the first time.

I was wondering if the addition of the hardcover had anything to do with it, but I don't think so.  Harry Potter hardcover and softcover are ranked separately.

How can I get business cards? I finally thought of a great way to use them!

At get-togethers sometimes people ask us how we know each other, and we have to explain how Brokeback Mountain brought us together. That's a great point to pull out a business card! Get-togethers sort of advertize themselves, and people are always curious what this group of people is about. It'll be great to have a bunch for the Washington, D.C.  Slash Bash.

Hey Jess, just PM me your address, and I will send them.   Wink

That is a FABULOUS idea!

FYI --

Last week I left some of the business cards in the "community" area of Half-Price Books here in Dallas -- they have a small area up-front for announcements, flyers, people's business cards, etc.  I gotta say ours were the prettiest!

I was in Borders today and, just out of curiosity, typed "Beyond Brokeback" into the computer they have available for customer searches.  It comes up in both paperback and hardcover, and can be ordered," usually arrives in 7 days or less."   It is classified under World History and Politics, which I thought was a bit strange.

But at least customers can order it through Borders if they go looking for it there.

Thanks for letting us know, greylocke.

Even though we'd prefer folks to buy direct from us and WingSpan (greater profit margin) until we sell the rest of the books in our first printing, the book should be available to order through any bookstore, whether brick-and-mortar or online. Still having trouble getting Amazon in the US to realize we have a hardback as well as a softcover edition, but England and Germany Amazons have already caught on to that!

I am SO WRONG on that. Tellyouwhat showed me that the hardback IS available! If you search Amazon for Beyond Brokeback, the softcover comes up. Then in little print inside a little box you will see that the hardcover is also available and shipping now! Wonder how long it's been there and I've just overlooked it?  Whut?

Using one of the online book price-comparison sites gave me the following:

http://www.compareshopbooks.com/cgi-bin/final.cgi?i=1595941223

Also, listing European sources:

http://www.bookfinder.com/search/?ac=sl&st=sl&qi=g0,zPnnoJWDcz1lVWXB4sO48T3s_0747150981_1:3:48

So - bottom line - it's in the standard databases and can be ordered without any difficulty.  One can only guess how much time it would take to obtain it from a vendor other than Wingspan or Amazon.

I'm not sure who gets credit for this, but there were some Beyond Brokeback business cards and postcards on a table at the Boundary Ranch in Alberta, where the group had dinner on Sunday night.  Hopefully, they left some elsewhere in Alberta as well.  Sorry......I forgot to take any cards with me on the trip.

Cool, Linda. Now we're expecting thank you notes from about 17 others, right?  Wink
