I'm at the same stage as Jack above & am finding the poetry & haikus very intense.  I'm in awe of the creativity inspired by the BBM story.

Hi Everybody!

I wish to post here just to thank all those Friends who made possible, by their personal evidence, the realization of this wonderful book.

How touching has been reading all their stories so similar to the one our loved Ennis and Jack!!!

I can really say what I have been feeling during and after reading the book is something I realized watching BBM only! I cannot find the right words to explain it properly but I’m sure you all can understand what I mean.

My arrival in this forum date back to three months only, some days after watching BBM first, and I am so grateful for having met all of you! I’m really a different person now, even if I haven’t posted so much!
Most of my daily thoughts now, are about all of you, new Friends, besides Ennis & Jack!!!

Thanks again for sharing all your wonderful stories with this “renewed” 50 years old straight Italian woman!

After reading B73's poem Pentecost in Beyond Brokeback for the um-teenth time, I decided to try to send a copy of it to Roberta Maxwell (Jack's mom).  I have checked around on the internet but have not been able to find an address for her.  I called Focus Features and they also had no address.  I'm sure there must be some way to direct fan mail to her, but I am out of ideas.  Anybody out there have any suggestions?

Last year's postcard mailing thread--
http://davecullen.com/forum/index.php?topic=839.msg42083#msg42083
--had the following address listed for her:
Roberta Maxwell
c/o Focus Features
100 Universal City Plaza
Universal City, CA   91608

You said you called Focus Features--this address is to "her" c/o Focus Features, so I don't know.  No one reported getting anything returned...

...for what it's worth...

I called the New York office for Focus Features.  I'll give the LA office a try.   Thanks for the reply.       Jack

To all the book team
I've not posted for a very long time, but I just had to drop a line to say that I've received my copy of the book and I'm in awe at what all of you have achieved. Thank you, thank you, thank you! It's very professional and, although I'm a total biblioholic (I have more than 2000 books), this is in the tiny elite of half a dozen books that I will really treasure for the rest of my life.
Sorry that I've been unable to help in producing/promoting the book, but I wanted at least to express my profound gratitude for this incredible achievement.

Has anyone been able to spread the word about "Beyond Brokeback" at any pride events?

I was able to leave some flyers and postcards at the Philly pride fest.

This weekend is NYC Pride, and I've emailed a number of bars to find out if they'll let me put some of the materials out there as well.

In August, Jersey City, NJ is having a Pride Celebration.  I'm working on finding out what I can do there too.

If this has been posted here before, I'm sorry for the repost, but if not....

here is a thread with a list of Pride Events.  Maybe some members in the areas can get some exposure for "Beyond Brokeback".

Tried something different with the flyer, and it worked.

I "googled" moutain ranges, and found a great pic, printed out 100 copies on the company's color printer.  Then, reloaded those pics in the copier, and printed out 100 of the flyers.

It worked great, and I'm now ready to hand them out after the parade on Sunday!

Not sure where to put this, but the following message currently appears on the Beyond Brokeback page on Amazon's website.  Not sure if this is good news or bad:

"Beyond Brokeback: The Impact of a Film (Paperback)

Yes, that statement is not at all helpful.

The true story is that the book is going through quality control for a few corrections, additions and changes, such as replacing paralegal with attorney. As soon as that is done, it will go to the printer and be available for Amazon, Amazon.co.uk, Barnes & Noble, other big chains, and independent booksellers to order the book from their usual distributor, Ingram.

In addition, Tellyouwhat is working on some custom language to replace that deadly statement on the Amazon description page. So we're just at a very awkward stage right now.

A number of first edition copies, both soft- and hardcover, are still available directly from our book web page, BeyondBrokeback.com. Any books bought via the other book stores will be the next edition with the corrections and changes. There will not be a set number printed. From here on out, it will truly be "print-on-demand." Whatever the bookstores order is the number that will be printed.

Thanks for the heads-up, Joe.

I just wanted to share this.

It is a comment in AfterElton concerning the article Summer Movie Doldrums: Where Have All the Gay Cowboys Gone?, and was in response to a snarky comment about "Brokeback Mountain".

He refers to AfterElton tipping him about the book.

"Submitted by Mad Mick (80 points) (15 posts)on Thu, 2007-06-07 16:02.
I was enjoying David Ehrenstein's post on recommended gay films - despite the irritating condescension implicit in "great gay films you've probably overlooked" - until I got to the snotty followup comment on Brokeback Mountain. It was like striking up a conversation with a stranger who's making sense until suddenly he pulls out an aluminum foil helmet, brags about his membership in the Log Cabin Republicans, and starts trashing Barney Frank.

After Elton tipped me to a fairly new book that Ehrenstein has probably overlooked called Beyond Brokeback: The Impact of a Film. Well, Brokeback may not have been the Second Coming of the Messiah (point of fact, I don't think "Miss God" has promised an encore) but it is a very fine film that accomplished a great deal more than one has any right to expect of a film.

And, no, I'm not terribly forgiving because I'm a very long way from being divine."

(My bolding.)
