Absolutely.  Just let me know when you have finished versions, John.  Do we want to rotate the videos too??  OHH!  Speaking of, I need to go update the illustrations for this week.   Wink

Glad you remembered! It hadn't entered my mind!

If all the videos were the same length I'd say rotate them, but with them being so different, I think we should put them all up and let people choose, depending on how much time they've got.

Can we fix the short ones so that they can put them on their personal MySpace or other web places? Is that OK with you , John?

Also, you might be sick of editing them, but is there anyway to attach davecullen.com/brokeback/book/ to them?

I'm eager to hear Jaysmommy's voiceover. Can she sing a song on them, too?   Wink

Folks,
I don't know if this is the place to post this, but I just ordered a hardcover edition of "Beyond Brokeback". Can't wait to read it! I hope the book sells like hotcakes. Thanks to all who worked on this book, both as writers and in the publication process!

Hey, Zadoc! Keep your calendar open! Live events such as the one you're suggesting should be great sales boosters as well as good opportunitites to help local book stores. Don't forget about your independent stores as well as the big chains. We don't want any more of them to go under. (There is, by the way, a particular hurdle to getting into the big chains such as B&N and Borders. I won't bore you with the detials, but we're working on it.).

This week the marketing team will be looking through all the ideas submitted so far on this thread and on the most recent 10 pages or so of the Book Project thread. Some great ideas have been submitted. What they will produce is a coordinated, organized marketing plan with a timeline and a small budget. We want to emphasize activities that don't cost us any cash first, such as Dave's contact with AfterElton. Then, one of the following activities may be to produce a marketing "package" that Forum members can use for such a reading at a local bookstore. Perhaps a poster that you could download and print. Maybe bookmarks to hand out. We'll see what the team comes up with.

What everyone can do meanwhile, until a plan is finalized, is to make personal contacts with your friends, family, email pals, and individuals you know on other boards and forums and give them out link: www.davecullen.com/brokeback/book/.

  Thanks Lydia!

I appreciate the feedback. I'm in the process of mailing the emboldened link to friends, and telling others via the phone about the publication of our book.

I work part-time 30 hrs. a week - 5 days a week, and am off on Fridays and Sundays.
I'm on my feet during those 30 hrs, generally without a 'sit-down', and also expend alot of energy during my stay at work, often resulting in the need to 'recharge my batteries' after I arrive home, although, I must say that 'after work' readings would not be out of the question!  I do bounce back pretty quickly!!
I'm sure I'll be hearing from you soon enough about this.
I should tell you that I'm going on Holiday in Florida from Friday, April 13 until Friday, April 20 when I arrive back home on Staten Island.

Still 'pumped' and as eager as ever!!

thanks to goaboydc for the suggestion that library donations should be possible from the order sheet.   Smiley Wink

Library Donations

Thanks to our publisher WingSpan Press, we now have a second button on the order form for those who wish to donate to libraries.  You can order a book for donation and have it shipped directly to the library of your choice.  You also have the option of ordering a book and allowing the forum to pick the library for you.  The book will ship from WingSpan, and they will be able to keep a list of the libraries.  We will keep you informed about the status of library donations.

We’ll have more information in a week or two about discounts on large orders.  If you are considering an  order of 25 books or more, please PM KittyHawk

For What It's Worth

Okay, instead of working, I was trolling the web to see where the news about the book is being posted. I saw an entry in the French Wikipedia for the book. So, I immediately went over to the English entry for Brokeback. Didn't see anything there. Does anyone know if it's already posted there. And, if not, it might be good to upload a blurb and the book cover. The site usually gets a lot of traffic, doesn't it?

I looked at the markup protocol for making entries, and it's Greek to me. Anybody out there with experience uploading to Wikipedia? PM Ellen or me.

Okay, instead of working, I was trolling the web to see where the news about the book is being posted. I saw an entry in the French Wikipedia for the book. So, I immediately went over to the English entry for Brokeback. Didn't see anything there.

I started looking at Wikipedia for how to post an entry, and their first two rules about what to avoid are:

Articles about yourself, your friends, your website, a band you're in, your teacher, a word you made up, or a story you wrote
Advertising

... as such I'm don't think Beyond Brokeback is an appropriate entry.

EDIT:  Well, maybe there is an opportunity to extend the entry for Brokeback Mountain:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brokeback_mountain   Half way down the page is a paragraph talking about US and the VARIETY AD.  Very cool.  It's all anonymous in that it doesn't mention the forum name.  But could we draft a paragraph that says in April 2007 this same set of fans published a book containing exerpts of the impact the film had upon their lives...   Without mentioning the name of the book would this be interesting?  Could we slip in the name of the book?  I think the worst that would happen is that someone would delete it.

EDIT2 -- LOL, sorry for the stream of thought posting!  We can't mention the name of the book directly, but we certainly can put in a footnote that points to our book site.   So... someone want to write the copy?

Here is a quote from Wikipedia which mentions the forum:

Post-Academy Awards reaction

Main Article: Critical reception of Brokeback Mountain: Post Academy Awards reaction

Brokeback Mountain had won the 'Best Picture' award in almost every major pre-Oscar award ceremony, except for the Best Ensemble Cast Award, which some mistakenly called 'Best Picture', of the Screen Actor Guild. The media cited a few senior voting members of the Academy making derogatory remarks about the film before Oscar and subsequently suggested homophobia might be at work when the Academy selected Crash as Best Picture, especially after Ang Lee won the Academy Best Director for Brokeback Mountain. Author Annie Proulx and many other critics indignantly lamented the Best Picture loss for Brokeback Mountain (see awards article), while in contrast, Roger Ebert, the only major critic who supported Crash, defended its selection.

The Ultimate Brokeback Forum financed a full-page ad in the Daily Variety issue of 10 March 2006,[70] thanking the creators of Brokeback Mountain, and listing its Best-Picture awards (which omitted the Academy).

Sooo... I will PM you Monica about the possibilities of adding to this information.  Example:

"One year later the same forum published a book written by its members and volunteers, which relates how the film has impacted the lives of many people, gay and straight, male and female."

Ah, good catch Ellen, I was referring to this passage -- further up on the page in the "Reception" section.

On March 9, 2006 Brokeback Mountain made the news yet again when a press release was sent to more than 400 media outlets announcing that nearly $26,000 had been raised for an ad to be posted in the Daily Variety on March 10, 2006.[43] This $26,000 had been raised by just over 600 fans through an online donations site, affiliated with a non-studio-sponsored online forum which is devoted to the film and the book.[44] The story was quickly picked up by several outlets including Yahoo!, The Advocate, and The New York Times.[45][46][47] The ad served as a simple show of fan support despite its losing the Best Picture Oscar,[48] and is probably the first time that fans have sponsored the running of such an ad. This Daily Variety issue is already sold out and is impossible to order as a back issue.
