WooHoo!!!

We're on Best. Gay. Day. Ever. !!!  http://afterelton.logo-blogs.com/2007/03/16/beyond-brokeback-book-on-its-way/

I read this every day and I'm sure a lot of other people do too.  The blog gets a lot of cross traffic with Towleroad which is really great for us.

As I'm sure any people know, it's parent site, AfterElton, had a ton of very intelligent Brokeback coverage last year.

Are we going to put an ad on Towleroad?  If not, we should.  Andy Towle and Towleroad have become quite high profile in the last two years.  Towleroad was THE place I went for Brokeback news before I found the forum.

Ellen/tellyouwhat is going to be working this coming week on putting together some priorities for our marketing plan. Looks like this is one we can already check off!

Can I ask a question about pre-ordering the book on this thread? I just tried to order, but there was something about a "certificate authorization" that suggested the paypal connection wasn't legitimate. Is the trouble with my computer, or something else?

If someone could PM me, that would be great. thanks for your help.

Yes, Brian and Michael are great. We had a partnership agreement with AfterElton last year. (If you liked their brokeback coverage, I think it was probably our coverage--we exchanged links and let them put some of our content on their site.)

I emailed them a couple days ago about the book. They're terrific supporters of us.

Towerload is definitely on our list to contact. I'm not sure if we've gotten there yet.

  Greetings fellow BBMountaineers

A couple of months back one of the Mods (Kitty?) suggested that it might be beneficial, in the truest sense of the word, that some members participate in public readings from Beyond Brokeback in our own localities.
My local Barnes & Noble (Staten Island, N.Y.) every month, features authors who read from and later talk about their work; these events are publicized.

I would be happy to join other members from the New York area in such readings, where of course a table near the lectern would be stacked our book!
I'm sure we could get a good crowd at such an event!
I would be willing to travel to other boroughs of NYC (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx) to participate in readings.
If Dave, the Mods, or anybody else for that matter have ideas on this or about how we could go about this, I would appreciate hearing from them.

'Pumped up' and ready for action,

   Zadoc

Hey, Zadoc! Keep your calendar open! Live events such as the one you're suggesting should be great sales boosters as well as good opportunitites to help local book stores. Don't forget about your independent stores as well as the big chains. We don't want any more of them to go under. (There is, by the way, a particular hurdle to getting into the big chains such as B&N and Borders. I won't bore you with the detials, but we're working on it.).

This week the marketing team will be looking through all the ideas submitted so far on this thread and on the most recent 10 pages or so of the Book Project thread. Some great ideas have been submitted. What they will produce is a coordinated, organized marketing plan with a timeline and a small budget. We want to emphasize activities that don't cost us any cash first, such as Dave's contact with AfterElton. Then, one of the following activities may be to produce a marketing "package" that Forum members can use for such a reading at a local bookstore. Perhaps a poster that you could download and print. Maybe bookmarks to hand out. We'll see what the team comes up with.

What everyone can do meanwhile, until a plan is finalized, is to make personal contacts with your friends, family, email pals, and individuals you know on other boards and forums and give them out link: www.davecullen.com/brokeback/book/

One PM I recently received told me that many of our newcomers here on our Forum don't know the story of our book, so some of you authors and volunteers might make sure that everyone on our Ultimate Brokeback Forum understands what this book means to us and how it was created. Even though they may not have been here from the time when many of our stories were posted, they will be intrigued to see how their own stories compare with those in the book.

This worthy of a news box entry?  It's looking a bit anemic this morning.

The book is featured on the OUT IN HOLLYWOOD blog of Greg Hernandez, entertainment writer for the LA DAILY NEWS. Last week I sent the press release to a half dozen blogs I read regularly -

Mejack and Jackie, nice comments - all of them!   Wink
It's especially helpful when you can include the URL for the web page.
www.davecullen.com/brokeback/book/

Dan, WOW! Very nice mention we got there.Could we have written a better opening line?
"I can't wait to read this book!" he says.
  Grin Grin Grin

Dan, if you get back to Greg or the other bloggers to thank them, maybe you could mention that you'll let them know as soon as the books are shipping. And you can give them www.davecullen.com/brokeback/book/ for the link to order. (It is in the press release but Greg didn't pick up on it.)

Soon... very soon... in a week I hope..., we'll have an actual marketing PLAN so we can go about this in an organized way that will ensure we're not duplicating efforts or omitting important contacts. We may also be able to tell which contacts are producing what results. For example, from the AfterElton Best. Gay. Day. Ever.  that just appeared on Friday, we had 51 folks come to the book web site in about 36 hours.
