Thanks, Nancy! I've seen that locomotive there in Chandler, a great setting!

Say Fritiz, do you remember riding The Southerner from NOLA to New York -- took about 27 hours.  I used to do it to D.C. as well -- sat up all the way!

If he does not force his attention on it, it might stoke the day, rewarm that old, cold time on the mountain when they owned the world and nothing seemed wrong.

Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive
But to be young was very heaven!

Yeah! Me too, though only as far as DC. The first time I rode it was back in 1970, when it was still operated by the Southern Railway. Then many years later, my sister and I took it down and back for my Parents' 60th wedding anniversary back in 1997. Took it again last fall, though only as far as Clemson SC. My sister frequently takes it from NYC to Clemson, when she takes care of our Mother when my other sister is away.

And yes, we went down just in the regular railcar. I can sleep well enough in those seats, with the legrests, footrests and greater space than even the old style airliners.

The Ringling Blue train passed through here yesterday afternoon and spent a little time near Bristol. All the tv reporters could talk about was how long it is... a few feet shy of a mile.

The only giraffe that's been on RBBB in the last 30-40 years was Gunther's "Dickie." And he traveled by semi for which Gunther got his truckers' license so he could drive him. On short, unscheduled stops, everyone stays on the train or close enough to hop on board as soon as it starts. There is no warning, just a lurch.

A trip on Puffing Billy in the Dandenong Hills, near Melbourne, Australia - nice and cool on a very hot day.
