For (much) later discussion, a thought on a BBM Award for our heroes ... what about the little horse Ennis was carving as he is from the rain in the tent and was obviously thinking about Jack up with the sheep?

Question:  how does this horse relate to the horse/rider/hat figure in the Jack's bedroom/shirt scene?  I have been wondering if they're the same, 'tho I can't imagine Ennis carving the rider and hat ...

I wondered the same exact thing!!!
NO, they are not.  Ennis is carving from wood.  Jack's horse looks like metal, maybe not, but remember it was from his childhood.

Here is Draft 7, which is final except for three changes Ned is still working on:

- the url has been shortened dramatically, to brokeback.davecullen.com

- we are adding back several of the names as requested: the composer, DP, and the two film editors.

- inserting the hi-res logo

---

Some of the other major changes to this version, from the previous:

- we have added a portion of ang lee's quote to the thank you section, where it fits snugly into the context. we will also post the full quote on the website and in the press release.

- we added several additional people to the thank you list, including the entity Focus Features, and took out the individual some objected to.

- we changed back to the requested wording on the line leading up to Best Picture.

- we cleaned up the three columns, made them even, etc.

- we changed the bottom wording to include friends of the site and changed the last line to wording suggested by sunspot.

I hope that the individuals yearning for use of an excerpt from Ang Lee's speech are satisfied with that portion of it. The other excerpt seemed highly inconsistent from the central message: thank you to the filmmakers, and we believe this was the best picture. We followed the Keep It Simple rule.

And we sincerely hope that the prominent picture ends any concerns that the ad is not gay enough. I don't know many straightguys who hold each other that way--or many straight readers who won't flip to that page and see something very gay. If a picture is worth a thousand words, that picture conveys gay a thousand times more than mentioning the word.

I'm sure that won't please everyone, but it addresses most of the concerns raised, and we think presents a great ad that clearly and powerfully conveys the message that the vast majority wanted. And the Variety people were blown away with it. They totally think will deliver the msg we intended to that audience in a manner they will hear. Which was our primary objective.

Ned still has several hours of work to get it into an electronic format in the precise dimensions for Variety, so we have to bring this design process to a close.

Thanks so much to everyone who contributed.

I am also posting this into the first post of the thread, for easy reference.

CHRISFEWA:

Re: the Hunter College screening.  As you may already know, producer James Schamus teaches at Columbia, he thanked the college when he accepted either the Broadcast Film Critics' award or Golden Globe, I don't remember.  You might want to see if you can get thru to him.  Also, Heath & Michelle live in Brooklyn, not too far.  I suggest calling talent agencies CAA, ICM and William Morris, find out who represents them (it will definitely be one or more of those companies, and they all have offices in Manhattan), and send them a message thru the agent.  Good luck!!

True, but Jack's been back many times since his childhood ... otherwise, how'd the shirts get there??   Whut?

But, I also think they're childhood toys, but wouldn't it be kewl if it was something Ennis gave him (or he swiped like the shirt)?

Yay - that's great!!!

(shame about the unprecedented consensus line, though, but see why it's there...although jayiijay could probably give you another award to fill the gap)

The American Family Association, Ann Coulter and Jeff Gannon, male whore, are already crowing about what a victory BBM losing the Oscar was and dammit, I want them stopped.

No, get their quotes and maybe do a second ad congratulating the Academy with their words.   Cheesy
The grassroots efforts going on here MAY strike a chord with the national media, cause even more controversy than if it had indeed taken Best Picture, become a story that resonates with the public and end up selling even more DVDs.

Let's keep it going.

I just burst into tears when I saw the words:  'And two people who don't even exist".  The ad is now perfect.  Thank you to Dave, Pete, Ned and all those who have made our dream come true over these last few difficult days.  May the Maker bless you.
