Are Focus Features and Creative Artists Agency on the list of recipients?

I'd hate for Heath, Jake, Michelle, Anne and the rest of the cast to miss it.

("Oh my god, we were too busy changing diapers to buy variety that day..." )  Smiley

---------------

What is amazing about this is that is reclaim Brokeback Mountain as the story of the film season.  Putting a positive message forward, with simplicity, elegance, class and truth does seem to beat a shrill response doesn't it?

Gandhi said we must "be" the change.  We cannot solve the problem at the level of the problem.  I am awed by the spiritual power of this film.   I do believe "spiritual" is the right wod too.  It's as if "Wings" is the soundtrack for a soul-lifiting for so many who see and involved with this movie.

The quiet poignancy of the ad reminds everyone with clas and dignity and thanks everyone involved everything positive about this movie.

SYLLABICATION: hoi pol·loi
PRONUNCIATION:   hoi p-loi
NOUN: The common people; the masses.
ETYMOLOGY: Greek, the many : hoi, nominative pl. of ho, the; see so- in Appendix I + polloi, nominative pl. of polus, many; see pel-1 in Appendix I.
USAGE NOTE: Hoi polloi is a borrowing of the Greek phrase hoi polloi, consisting of hoi, meaning “the” and used before a plural, and polloi, the plural of polus, “many.” In Greek hoi polloi had a special sense, “the greater number, the people, the commonalty, the masses.” This phrase has generally expressed this meaning in English since its first recorded instance, in an 1837 work by James Fenimore Cooper. Hoi polloi is sometimes incorrectly used to mean “the elite,” possibly because it is reminiscent of high and mighty or because it sounds like hoity-toity. •Since the Greek phrase includes an article, some critics have argued that the phrase the hoi polloi is redundant. But phrases borrowed from other languages are often reanalyzed in English as single words. For example, a number of Arabic noun phrases were borrowed into English as simple nouns. The Arabic element al– means “the,” and appears in English nouns such as alcohol and alchemy. Thus, since no one would consider a phrase such as “the alcohol” to be redundant, criticizing the hoi polloi on similar grounds seems pedantic.

ok i am stupid what is a hoi polai?

The elite......sometimes inferred to be the effete elite.

r u sure?

i could have sworn the reverse. the common folk, used traditionally in a condescending manner (or in this case, jokingly, i think). like the rabble.

Dave wins,

From the wikipedia:

Hoi polloi (Greek), an expression meaning "the many" in Ancient Greek, is used in English to denote "the masses" or "the people", usually in a derogatory sense.

Hoi polloi is Greek for “the common people,” but it is often misused to mean “the upper class” (does “hoi” make speakers think of “high” or "hoity-toity"?). Some urge that since “hoi” is the article “the hoi polloi” is redundant; but the general rule is that articles such as "the” and “a” in foreign language phrases cease to function as such in place names, brands, and catch phrases except for some of the most familiar ones in French and Spanish, where everyone recognizes “la"—for instance—as meaning “the.” “The El Nino” is redundant, but “the hoi polloi” is standard English.

It is interesting if it has changed its meaning in US, in Englishenglish it is still used in its original meaning.

a quick thought for dave=i wonder if focus would be interested in using our ad for sales of the dvd - like for their ad campaign to sell dvd or as an insert inside of dvd or for their ads in msm or trades for dvd or even tv ads with brokeback music playing behind our ad/how perfect is that...we the masses who buy the dvd love it and think it is best picture-we gotta get this in ny times.

Wow, I haven't heard that word for awhile.  Our family tends to use foo-foo instead.  As in:

"We all got dressed up, went out, and ate at a really foo-foo restaurant."  I am not sure how universal that word is but people seem to know what it means when you say it.   Cheesy

I don't wanna be annoying, and it's not even because he's Latin, but Gustavo Santaolalla should be among the people you thank. He created the original score, and won several awards, including the Oscar, for that. The rest of the ad is perfect. Now I really ougth to get some sleep, I have an early meeting tomorrow morning.  Wink

he's in there.

Just looked over the #7 version and he is not there.......and the score is part of this movie. I hope you have enough time and room to add him on

“and two men who will forever exist in out hearts – Jack and Ennis.”

This I love.

Jack and Ennis do exist.  Smiley  Ang even said that.

Didn't he correct himself after saying they don't exist?

Saying Jack and Ennis don't exist is sort of what the homophobes say, isn't it?  That we don't exist or that our love is a lie?

This is NOT criticism at all.  Only thinking of what the most impactful wording of the idea is.
Just gratittude, gratitude, gratitude I offer you. .

I even hate to put my head out of precipice to say it, because I dont' want anything this to be seen as critical.

What ever you choose will be wonderful, I know.  Smiley

Like DanRWentzelJr, my own sentiments lean toward the phrase

“and two men who will forever exist in out hearts – Jack and Ennis”

and I offer this opinion with complete humility. Yes, I do understand that we are trying to pay tribute to Ang Lee's own very touching and heartfelt words he gave us in his Academy Awards acceptance speech, and I honor that with absolute conviction. Yet as this is our personal thank you to him, I believe it is made even more poignant by our echoing his feelings, but with the intimation that -- because of your artistry, Ang Lee -- Jack and Ennis have indeed become real, since they now exist in all our hearts. It's a very subtle message, but I think the metaphor can be drawn out of that phrase. Reading "don't even exist" on a page is a little bit less "forgiving" to the senses than hearing Ang Lee's tender delivery of those same words, and I have to admit when I first saw that line my immediate reaction was, it sounded off key. Please understand this suggestion is offered with the most modest intentions...!

Blessed be.
