Sorry if this post is a bit incoherent, I've been drinking Jack 'n Cokes and enjoying the postings all evening.

Plus I'm weeping copiously after viewing the final ad.

BRAVISSIMO!

Dave, when this all settles down, PM me your phone #.  Wink, wink!

GORGEOUS ad.  All of the hard work was totally worth it.  Kudos to all that worked so hard, through so many late nights, with day jobs, to actually DO something to right this injustice.

I will be giving as much as I can afford to Round 2 (the national media).  Something tells me that this will resonate so far beyond what a Best Picture win would have given us Brokies.  Life gave us lemons, and we made lemonade.

Re the ad:  You folks did it.  This one is a perfect compromise of all the different ideas.  Wow.  I am proudly making my large contribution now.  Adding "unprecedented" at the end of the list is inspired.  Working in Ang Lee's quote is clever (I preferred it as a quote, but this is actually more artful, and most folks will get it).  I'd love to see more of the cast listed but you had to stop somewhere.

I'd also love to see the ad run in one of the big papers like USA Today or NY Times, or LA Times, I bet big contributions for the Matthew Shepherd Foundation would still come in via this site, but either way the latter is a beautiful idea.

Re the horse:  The one in the end sure looked wooden to me.  I thought the point was to make us wonder whether it was one of Ennis' or just something Jack got later because it reminded him of what Ennis did.  I think either answer is really nice, and that it's on purpose that we don't know for sure.  My feeling is that if Ennis had made it, he might have kept it, or been more touched by seeing it, but either interpretation seems to work well.

Just another wonderful way this masterpiece of storytelling lets the audience interpret things in multiple ways that are all reasonable and satisfying!!!

Thanks to everyone's responses. SO nice to hear.

Good job, Dave.  I think this strikes the right balance.

I think this version is a vast improvement. A lot less busy. One minor change if you're interested... I would be tempted to substitute the word "masterpiece" in place of the last "film."

I actually kinda like that idea, though I think Ned may fly to Denver to strangle me if I try to squeeze in one more change.

I'd avoid the word "masterpiece".  Too Hallmark, and it's really not needed, especially coming right after the word "power".

The only change I'd make . . .

Instead of the end of the header reading:

"...the entire cast & crew, and two people who don't even exist, Jack and Ennis."

I'd change it to read:

"...the entire cast & crew, plus two people who don't even exist - Jack & Ennis."

If possible, I'd put "Jack & Ennis" on a separate line, but it doesn't look like you'd have the room.

Other than that, I think it's ready to roll.

HELEN, DAVE, PETE:  I AM AFRAID YOU DID NOT GET MY PM RESPONSE TO YOUR REQUEST, SO TO BE SAFE, HERE IT IS:

Helen: Forgive me if anything below is already on our list, especially the critics' awards, I don't have our current list in front of me so I am including everything I can think of off the top of my head to be safe.

Sight and Sound Magazine Best Picture (this is arguably the world's most prestigious film magazine; only Cahier du Cinema of Paris competes)-good one

Premiere Magazine Best Picture Criitics' Poll #1
Entertainment Weekly Magazine Critics' Poll #1
Box Office Mojo #1 Movie Box Office Story of the Year
Over 300 Film Critics' Top 10 Lists (Most Ever)

Online Film and Television Association Best Picture (11 awards!!) - good one
Southeastern Film Critics Best Picture, etc.
Florida Film Critics Best Picture, etc.
Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Best Picture, etc.
Oscar Igloo Online Community Awards Best Picture etc.
International Cineephile Society Best Picture etc.
ECA Best Picture etc.
Gold Derby Best Picture etc.
Fennecus Award for Best Picture (this was the biggest movie award database on the web; he made a scathing public announcement against the academy for dissing Brokeback and choosing Crash, and closed his site)

Thanks!

jayiijay, a quick glance shows me many of these are on our list.

I'm still trying to find out if there will be any other buys than VARIETY, and how much has been raised. I'd love to make a donation if the ad could be placed in another place as well
The amount of money that gets raised will drive a lot of what we do next: if we have more, we'll continue, if people are satisfied that we have done enough, then we'll breath a sigh of relief and stop.

But we can't afford to focus on that now. This has been a massive undertaking, denny, and we have a long ways to go. Creating the actual ad is/one of about six major projects to make the whole thing happen. See post #2 of this thread for the list of teams Pete assemble from among us all.

We need to get this baby birthed before we can settle those questions. And of course we'll also be looking to see what effect the ad has, how things develop, etc.

No one has ever done this before, we have learned, so we're playing a lot of it by ear.

This ad is just wonderful and so happy to have been apart of this great campaign.  I trust Dave and the rest to do what is appropriate with any excess money.  Thank the stars for all of the wonderful people on this forum.  Not sure if I will be able to keep up with the post after the ad appears and the membership increases and once the DVD comes out but oh this is such a wonderful feeling of a community.  Yes, saw the movie yet again tonight do not ask it is well over 30 now since trying to go every night to see the turnout in the theater and tonight for a Tuesday 38 people so pleased to see that.  You Guys are great!!!
