Me and my dream

Hi everybody, I'm new here. It's a great feeling to know that I'm not alone with this "fever" that I've had for almost a year now.

I'm fascinated with the scenes that were deleted and many of you seem to be familiar with them. How many are there? Is there a list somewhere on here that shows which scenes were deleted?

One question I have had in my mind for some time now is regarding the trailer. There are two people in one shot of the trailer that I did not see in the movie. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, who are they???

What's the hippie scene about?

Thanks!!!! Grin

Welcome WhiskeyStream!

I don't know any of the details. Just wanted to say hi!

And if you're looking for something to do in February, I'm hosting
a screening of the movie in Bay City, Michigan on Oscar night.

Hi, WS. I don't recall any list of the scenes here, certainly not a formal one, though someone may have mentioned a few casually in one of their posts.

The two mechanics in the trailer scene may be the guys who appear in the scene where Ennis imagines them killing Jack. It's been speculated that the scene was edited out of the final cut to avoid giving too much support to the ^Jack was murdered^ interpretation. Presumably, Ang Lee wanted to leave the true nature of Jack's end ambiguous. This has been discussed in ^Jack's Fate^ in the Elements and Themes section of the forums. Here's a link to that discussion:

I don't know what all the missing scenes are either, but if you read the credits at the end of the film they list the cast in order of appearance, and there is a waitress listed Whut? I presume this was cut from the bar scene. Then there is the ride up to the mountain - you can see part of this scene in the trailer when Ennis is closing his eyes as he is sitting beside Jack in a driving truck. I've heard rumours (but no confirmation) that there is them meeting for a 'fishing trip' that is cut out, in addition to the 'hippie scene'. Lots of extra footage that adds onto scenes as well. Maybe in another 10 years or so they'll let us see some of it on a truly special edition  Roll Eyes

Welcome WhiskeyStream!  Glad to have you aboard!

I don't know all the answers to your questions, but if you are patient you'll find them all out on various places when you travel around the forum.

The two people in the trailer you are talking about are supposedly  mechanics that attack Jack in Ennis's flashback sequence.

There was a scene shot and filmed where Ennis and Jack befriend some hippies that get their VW Beetle stuck in a stream.  There's even been some photos of it on some threads, the photocaption thread is where I saw it.

Anyway, you'll find the threads that appeal to you most, so enjoy your "first day of school" so to speak and again, welcome, and Happy Holidays to you!

A wee bit OT but I have added this to show what a studio can do to present a truly great special edition.  And this is for a 30 -sh year old film

I have to admit  Roll Eyes I bought the 20th Century Fox "Cinema Classics Collection" of "Valley of the Dolls" LOL. Not only is the DVD case translucent hot pink but the contents are as follows:

Special features:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Audio Commentary by Barbara Parkins and E!'s Ted Casablancas
Gotta Get Off this Merry-Go-Round: Sex, Dolls, and Showtunes Documentary
The Divine Ms. Susann Featurette
Hollywood Backstories: Valley of the Dolls Featurette
Valley of the Dolls-A World Premiere Voyage Documentary Featuring Rare Footage
Jacqueline Susann And Valley Of The Dolls Documenatry Featuring Rare Footage
Still Galleries
Trivia Overdose: A Pill-Popping Guide to Valley of the Dolls
"You've Got Talent"-Follow The Bouncing Ball On Three Songs!
Screen Tests Of The Stars"
Miniature Lobby Cards (the kind that were shot in B&W and hand tinted before being sent to the printer)
NOW THIS IS A SPECIAL EDITION!!!!!!!!!!!  If only Universal put in half the effort for OUR movie.
Not really offtopic since it shows exactly the type of features you want to see on a Brokeback Mountain special edition.
Has anyone who wrote to Universal actually gotten a response? I'm curious as to what the "powers that be" reasoning is why the edition is so lame and the audience's expectations were so much higher. Undecided
BTW - I want a part 2!
I would really like to see a diary type feature where we can see the actors hanging around on the set and having fun. Smiley
All the filmed deleted scenes (Jack & Randall at gas-station, hippie scene, all 13 FNIT takes!, etc)  Grin
It would be nice if they had tv spots from as many award shows as possible.
A 'fans' featurette (including something about our ad, etc).
A bonus disc with the complete score.
I would soo love those FNIT outtakes. And any reunion outtakes... or SNIT... lol.
Jake is so adorable and hilarious... and I definitely would want to see bloopers.
Ditto, ditto, ditto and ditto again! I especially want those FNIT takes. Maybe some bloopers/outtakes from filming, too. With Jake G around there was bound to be some goofy/funny moments!
I was recently in Paris, and I bought there the French Luxury Edition of the DVD, which also includes a strip of the actual film. Mine includes the scene with Ennis and Jack, as they are about to walk into Aguirre's trailer, Ennis in the foreground, Jack in the background, with his body still glued to that truck!  Wink
It is really a beautifully packaged edition overall.
wow freetraveler - that is not something I would have thought of but is something I'd pay extra for (and hope I didn't end up with the scene of Alma doing laundry)
It's been speculated that the scene was edited out of the final cut to avoid giving too much support to the ^Jack was murdered^ interpretation. Presumably, Ang Lee wanted to leave the true nature of Jack's end ambiguous.
I attended a BBM screening last year where Diana Ossana was doing a Q&A session afterward, and she mentioned that Ang Lee originally intended to make it definite that Jack was murdered but that they eventually decided to go with making it ambiguous, as it was in the original story. That trailer scene wasn't mentioned, but this might have been the reason for cutting it.
My dream BBM DVD would have a special section for deleted scenes and outtakes. The "hippie" scene sounds like it didn't really connect with the main story enough to be included, but would still want to see it, and definitely the uncut scene with the first 'fishing trip' - the one where we see Jack putting potatoes (or corn?) into a pot of boiling water as Ennis drives up.
And outtakes of the FNIT and SNIT scenes. That goes without saying...  Evil
I bought it in a store, but you can always buy it online at Amazon France. It's called "Edition Prestige":
http://www.amazon.fr/secret-Brokeback-Mountain-Prestige-pellicule/dp/B000FGG7H4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/403-3143108-5959666?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1181829347&sr=8-3
The box set also contains 8 postcard-sized photos from the film and set.
Here is a link that describes the upcoming release of the Criterion Collection edition of Ang Lee's The Ice Storm.
Notice the extras - commentary by Lee and James Schamus; deleted scenes.  Just the stuff we have hoped for for BBM someday.
So it is not futile to hope that someday.....there may be a true deluxe edition of BBM.
