Regarding the postcards, it's most likely the same ones as below, which appeared in the Deluxe Taiwaneese 2-disc edition.  All of us here are already *very* familiar with all the photos they used...

This version (only plays on Taiwaneese or International DVD players) came with postcards, a special denim outer box, and a copy of the Close Range book.  Taiwan sure loves their Ang Lee!  It's already out of print; at least shown as "no longer avail" on YesAsia.com...   If such a thing came out domestically, it would likely be a seperate premium version...  I wonder what the image is on that 2nd disc?  (Looks like mostly sky from what we can see...)

Speaking of other versions, I really like the images on the *Japanese* 2-disc version:

None of these offer any hints as to the content of the second disc; although I'll be thrilled with anything, I wouldn't get my hopes up too much...

I've been gone from this forum for months...  but I didn't see it anywhere else by searching, and thought I should announce it...

***2-DISK "COLLECTOR'S EDITION" OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED FOR JAN '07 RELEASE***

We have absolutely no idea what's on it, but it's absolutely official now...

I wonder if we're going to get a commentary track this time around?
With 2x 5.1, 1x 2.0 and 1 DTS 5.1 audiotracks, that leaves awful little space for commentaries considering the movie is over 2 hours long.
I'll be sorely disappointed if there aren't commnetaries, they are my favorite type of extra.

I'm wondering if the 'never-before-seen footage' refers to new scenes/footage that will be in a re-cut version of the film, or if it will be individual scenes shown by themselves in the second dvd. I like the idea of the additional footage being shown within the film, but the running time of 2h15m for the first disk kind of rules that out, I think?

Hmmm...that's not good news about little space for commentary tracks.  Not only what you said, but there's also the space used for French/Spanish/subtitles etc.

As for the extra footage, unless the film is presented as a "director's cut" meaning the director wished it had been released or cut a bit differently, the extra footage is never (as far as I'm aware) inserted into the film as sort of a new or different version, so I'm sure it'll be on the 2nd disc.

Yes, you would expect for them to say if it was a directors cut, so the extra footage will probably be on the second disc as separate scenes or part of the extras. I had really hoped we would get a longer version of the film but maybe that will be still another release. The only odd thing is that the 2h15min length is one minute longer than the original? Not sure why?

Jack and Ennis...a love that will never grow old

« Reply #96 on: November 04, 2006, 01:03:12 PM »

Gee, I wish they would incorporate any deleted scenes into the body of the film, as Peter Jackson did on the extended editions of Lord of the Rings. It's my favorite way of watching the definitive version of ANY film. I don't care if it makes the film longer...if the film is good (as in BBM) i want to see every frame. Having the extra footage separately is a distant second, for me.

Ennis, admit it,you're falling in love.

I happen to think that what we have now IS the director's cut. I think it's perfect the way it is. Although I'd like to see deleted scenes I'm not sure the movie could be made better by putting them back in. It could become another movie, with the risk of loosing it's present spareness.

More doesn't necessarily mean better.

What I'd like the most to be included is a comentary by Lee.

Sorry for my poor English if anyone feels awkward while reading my post. As a foreigner, it's hard to put my thoughts in words. So have mercy! Wink

I couldn't agree with you more, john john.
Love to have extra clips but I wouldn't wish for another version of the movie.

How about including  a piece of the film? 5 to 6 frames would be nice. I think even though we have these digital devices and contents, people still want analog stuffs, things that we can actually hold in our hands.

From the theater where I've watched BBM, gave out these films to people who bought the tickets. I've got the scene where Aguirre tells the boys about their duties.

I would love to have a film that has Jack and Ennis together!

Welcome amongst us Annie! You're doing fine, don't worry. I understand you very well, I'm French and it is a worthwhile effort to write in another language especially about Brokeback Mountain!
I would love to have a piece of the film and like you, one with both our boys on it.
The dozy embrace would do just fine thank you!

Universal has added the following to their page about the two-disc release of BBM in January.

Disc 1
Bonus Materials
*   A Groundbreaking Success
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc 2

Bonus Materials
*   Impressions from the Film (Still Gallery)
*   On Being a Cowboy
*   Directing from the Heart: Ang Lee
*   From Script to Screen: Interviews with Larry McMurtry & Diana Ossana
*   Sharing the Story: The Making of Brokeback Mountain
*   Music from the Mountain

If this is all--no commentary, 4 segments already on the first one...
This is very disappointing.

If there is no commentary of any kind and no deleted scenes (I don't want them inserted into the movie, just in their own section) I won't spend the money for another copy.
