Yeah, that would be great, however, I wouldn't hold my breath.

From what I remember, Ang Lee said something along the lines of that the final version of the film is the one he wanted released, and no "director's cut" or "deleted scenes" will be released.

Of course, he could change his mind.

Last year Criterion released a Criterion edition of Ang Lee's The Ice Storm - produced by James Schamus, of course..

Now this spring they are going to release the Ang Lee / Jim Shamus production, Ride With the Devil.  A "Director's Cut" with thirteen added minutes!

Looks like Lee and Schamus have established a strong connection with Criterion.

Only a matter of time before BBM gets the Criterion treatment, IMO.

Does it really say DIRECTOR'S CUT, because I just read
an interview with James Schamus and he says:

Quote
THR: Do you give final cut to your filmmakers?

Schamus: A lot of them get it, a lot don't. It really depends.
It's not automatic here, but go online and look at every DVD
that's ever come out from Focus and you will never see a
director's cut
. Whether it's contractual or not -- and believe
me, we are not shy about our opinions, and we're not a conveyor
belt; we're partners -- I'm very proud of the fact that every director
who has worked here has seen his or her work on the screen at
the premiere.

This is the article link.
James Schamus won a Hollywood Reporter (THR) award
and they interviewed him.  He talks about his producer and
screenwriting roles, why Taking Woodstock disappointed, and
a new project with Ang Lee:

Yes it does say "director's cut":

With this new director’s cut, Ang Lee reconstructs his original vision for his Civil War epic, Ride with the Devil, an intimate, harrowing look at a country torn in half, told from a daringly unorthodox perspective.

DIRECTOR-APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION:

    * New director’s cut of Ride with the Devil, featuring thirteen minutes of added footage
    * New, restored high-definition digital transfer, approved by director Ang Lee and director of photography Frederick Elmes (with DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray edition)
    * Two audio commentaries, one featuring Lee and producer-screenwriter James Schamus and one featuring Elmes, sound designer Drew Kunin, and production designer Mark Friedberg
    * New video interview with star Jeffrey Wright
    * PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by critic Godfrey Cheshire

I always have known it'll just be a matter of time before Criterion gives its special treatment to BBM--it'll take a few more years but the wait will be worth it.  But I had always hoped on getting commentary from Heath and Jake on it.  Maybe Jake will oblige.

Smiley  I'd really love to see all of Jack & Ennis' scenes together that were edited or cut, maybe because of being too long or something like that.  I'd love to see the trucking up to the mountain scene, Ennis bringing beans and Jack broiling steaks, their sitting together on the log laughing and drinking, the entire rifle scene, both staring into the fire their last time together,(not knowing it would be the last time), etc.  Anything that sheds any insight on their relationship and how frustrating their lives are by just not being together.
But - definitely not the HIPPIE scene, which sure doesn't belong.

There's one at the 4-yr. "reunion" (not in the film) where Jack goes into the kitchen and meets Alma, rather than he and Ennis standing at the doorway.  (But I get the "take" where the emotion between E and J is just too hard to conceal and they have to stand a ways apart from her.
