I have been looking for this item for years but it has usually been WAY beyond my price range.  Until today, that is.....

I put an eBay bid on this copy of New Yorker magazine, the one from 1997 in which Brokeback Mountain appeared in print for the very first time.  I bid US$30 (with a maximum of $50) and went to bed with two hours of bidding still left.  As seven other people had also been bidding, I half expected I would not win.

Guess what?  I woke up this morning and I had won!  My winning bid was $45 (plus $10 postage to UK).  In the past, this has sold for $200 and higher!

In this case, I feel luck was very much on my side.  The seller had listed it as "Broke Back" (ie two words) instead of Brokeback.  This no doubt threw the Bloodhounds off the scent.

My BBM museum is now almost compete!

Anyway, I hope this little episode will give hope to other Brokies looking for this kind of stuff.  Hang in there!

((((( Brokies )))))

Glen

Congrats to your lucky purchase Glen!

I have it too. Don't know how much it cost though, as it was a present from a Brokie friend.

It's the "Brokie bible"!  Grin

WHERE THE BLUEBIRDS SING & THERE'S A WHISKY SPRING

Thanks, Sason.  I can't wait until my copy of "New Yorker" magazine arrives!  I'll have to display it in a cabinet or somesuch, along with other Brokie items such as the Oscars promo book, postcards, posters, my first-edition copies of Annie Proulx's books etc.

There is quite a lot of stuff out there, but I am really only interested in the items produced officially in connection with the movie.  There are some fun things for sale (bumper stickers, T-shirts, coffee mugs etc), but quite often it is simply someone with a bunch of digital Brokeback photos and a decent printer.

I wonder if there is any way we could find out what were the official items which Focus Features produced?

I have been thwarted three times in getting one of those New Yorker editions
and in ways that have been maddening, including from the New Yorker "company"
itself.  There.  I got it out.

What I was going to post is that I've always liked to believe that the cover
of that issue of the New Yorker is directly related to the story of Jack & Ennis
itself:

Rodney had quite a few scripts, didn't he?  Does anyone know what happened to them?  (I am not asking for mercenary reasons - I know he was a friend of many people here so no disrespect is intended.)  I just hope his well-loved memorabilia stayed in the Brokie family, that's all.
Yes, he had a whole box of them. A real treasure.

Have been trying to purchase one of these items.....but to no avail. The reason being when I ask for shipping costs ....I am coming up to a blank wall. I would expect the costs to be more as it has got to come to the UK. There is a space if you need to leave a message with the seller...this I have done but have received nothing back. I have been trying now for 4 days. Has anyone got any ideas or an answer to my dilemma ??!!

Hi Sue

I think that what you have done is the correct procedure.  How tiresome that the seller has not responded!  Why not try again?

In some cases (it is very rare but not unknown) some sellers cannot be bothered shipping abroad, but it would still be courteous if they were to answer you.

Good luck!  I hope you sort it out and manage to buy those yummy calendars.

Here's a little video I made last week. Larry (Oregondoggie) discusses some of the memorabilia he and I have collected. This is just a small sample, and we might do another video with some of the other stuff soon. This is the first real video I've made with my new camera, and this is really just a test video.
